Tom Wilson
Tom was born in Manchester in 1957. In the 1970s, he studied composition at the Birmingham Conservatoire with Andrew Downs. In the 1980s, as a student at Goldsmiths University of London, he spent five years studying composition with Melanie Dakin and Edward Gregson. For ten years he was Head of Woodwind and Tutor for Academic Music at Uppingham School in Rutland. Since 1989, Tom has lived in Glasgow and Musselburgh, where he teaches composition at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and St. Mary’s Music School in Edinburgh.

In 2017, “Violin Concerto” was performed by the St. Andrews Chamber Orchestra with Feargus Hetherington as soloist and conducted by Bede Williams.
“Six Studies for solo ‘cello on Objects in the Smith, Stirling”, performed by Duncan Strachen.
“Passages”, a song cycle for Mezzo and ‘cello to texts by Clive Wright, performed by Elizabeth McCormack and Duncan Strachan in the Smith Museum, Stirling and at the Lime Tree An Ealdhain Gallery, Fort William.
“Wind Quartet 17”, performed by the Edinburgh Contemporary Music Ensemble in the Institut Francais in Edinburgh. Directed by Charles Baumstark.
In 2018, “Serenade Six” was commissioned and performed by the Scottish Clarinet Choir in Dunblane conducted by John Cushing.
“Cello Concerto” was performed by the New Edinburgh Orchestra in Edinburgh with Findlay Spence as soloist and Tim Paxton conducting.
In 2020, “Concertante Oboe” was performed by the Edinburgh Contemporary Music Ensemble with Fraser Kelman as soloist and Conducted by Gordon Bragg.
