Acting 1

A Year-long Weekly Short Course

Page Navigation

Overview

This weekly evening in-person class for people age 16+ focuses on developing your acting technique and experience in contemporary styles.

Acting 1 focuses on sustained and gradual development by leading students through the key areas of observation, improvisation, naturalism, text analysis, character voice, physicality and performance. This course is ideal for students who want to focus specifically on acting skills and rehearsal techniques.

You will cover basic Stanislavski acting principles including observation of self and others as material for improvisation and naturalistic acting. You will discover how to build well-rounded and authentic characters through the analysis of text and research, and have the opportunity to explore voice and movement in relation to the choices you make.

Led by an experienced tutor and director, classes will be practical and focus on solo and partnered scene work. Discussion and feedback will also form a key part of your learning as you develop a wider vocabulary for talking about performance.

During the final term of the course you will apply the skills you have learned to present a sharing of your work to an invited audience.
