Workshop: Write the Script

Workshop: Write the Script

Overview

Step into the world of storytelling and learn how to bring your ideas to life! Write the Script is a dynamic, hands-on workshop designed especially for Secondary 1–6 students who are ready to imagine boldly, write creatively, and collaborate.

Across this half-day session, students will explore the fundamentals of scriptwriting—how to craft compelling characters, shape dramatic scenes, and turn everyday moments into compelling stories. Through guided activities, group brainstorming, and practical writing exercises, students will discover how their unique perspectives can inspire meaningful narratives.

Throughout the workshop, students will work together in small creative teams, developing story concepts, sharing ideas, and giving each other constructive feedback. They’ll learn how collaboration strengthens a script, how different voices make a story richer, and how teamwork mirrors the real process of making a script.

By the end of the day, every student will have:

  • Developed an original story idea
  • Written key scenes or a short script outline
  • Practised industry-style brainstorming and pitching
  • Built confidence in creative expression
  • Experienced the power of collaboration in storytelling

Whether you’re a budding writer or simply curious about how stories are made, this workshop opens the door to the exciting craft of scriptwriting in a safe and enriching environment.

BAFTA-winning and Golden Globe nominated actor James McAvoy is committed to nurturing the creative potential of young Scots who experience barriers to access and participate in drama at RCS Short Courses.
