Introduction
For our new evening Musical Theatre course, classes will focus on acting through song, dance styles, and understanding musical theatre repertoire. Participants will cultivate their work to focus on their creativity through singing, acting, and dancing. Exploring various performance techniques such as acting through song, story-telling, voice and movement, you will develop your own skills and work in small groups with other participants.
Throughout the term you will be led through the process of researching and rehearsing musical theatre pieces, and be introduced to terms and jargon used within the industry.
You will focus on research and detailed textual analysis as key processes to creating believable, engaging and well rounded performance.
This course also works on developing the demanding voice and movement skills required of a musical theatre performer. On a weekly basis you will take part in repeated vocal and physical exercises which improve performance presence and allow you to connect to characters through song.
There will be opportunities to create original musical theatre performances from your own ideas. Taking part in devising and choreographic exercises will increase your confidence in developing scripts, songs and routines.
Students will have the opportunity to share their work with two performances during the year.
- Peer Sharings – 13 December 2023 (classes share their work with each other)
- Public Sharings –19 June 2024 (family and friends are invited to this performance)
By the end of this course you will have:
- Been introduced to a variety of popular and musical theatre repertoire
- Improved your technical vocal and physical performance skills
- Engaged in acting techniques to create believable and engaging characters
- Explored creative ways of interpreting musical theatre material
