Introduction
Our weekly dance classes offer students an opportunity to receive expert tuition in a welcoming and supportive environment. They take place in our state-of-the-art ballet studios at the Royal Conservatoire’s Wallace Studios campus.
Our youngest dancers (Baby Ballet and Nursery Ballet) will be introduced to ballet and modern dance by our professional teachers in a fun, friendly and structured class. In these weekly sessions, they will develop their strength, co-ordination and musicality and will be introduced to the basics of ballet and modern dance technique.
When children reach school age, we offer classes in ballet, contemporary and modern dance and recommend that children attend two or more styles, as they complement each other and will develop their physical, artistic and creative skills. For ballet, we offer classes in the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) graded system. For modern dance, we follow the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing syllabi and for contemporary dance we offer the Rambert Grades syllabus. The RAD, ISTD and Rambert are internationally recognised organisations, which offer children the opportunity to learn to dance in a safe, structured way, developing their physical and artistic skills through their weekly classes. Their achievements will even be recognised in the National Qualifications Framework.
Students from Primary onwards, have the opportunity to be presented for examinations in RAD ballet, ISTD modern and Rambert Grades contemporary. Although these examinations are not compulsory, they are encouraged, as most children find them an enjoyable and positive experience. Children will be entered for exams when the class teachers feel that they are ready to progress to the next level and will be fully prepared for these special events. Examinations usually take place annually in June, although sessions may be scheduled at other times in the year.
The uniform information for ballet and modern will be provided on enrolment.
