The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, a top ten destination for performing arts education in the QS World
University Rankings, is brought to life in its bold new digital prospectus, launched today (Monday, May 4).
Prospective students from Scotland and around the world are invited behind the scenes to experience RCS through the eyes and experiences of students and graduates from across the disciplines of music, drama, dance, production and film.
Bespoke photography, contemporary design and dynamic digital storytelling combine to create an immersive virtual showcase packed with personality and information that goes straight to the heart of the student experience. View at rcs.ac.uk/likenowhereelse.
Current students from across the disciplines of music, drama, dance, production and film and high-profile graduates including Sex Education’s Ncuti Gatwa, Outlander’s Sam Heughan and mezzo-soprano Svetlina Stoyanova of the Vienna State Opera, take a starring role throughout, through personal interviews and reflections of their time at RCS.
The prospectus has a stunning central image shot by acclaimed fashion and sports photographer Guy Farrow, who has worked with everyone from English National Ballet and Vivienne Westwood to Adidas and Nike. Captured over one day, on the stage of the Royal Conservatoire’s New Athenaeum
Theatre, the shoot brought together a cast from across the conservatoire, photographed against the striking set of an RCS production.
A free downloadable app, Zappar, enables bonus content such as additional images and videos to be unlocked on smartphones and tablets. This includes exclusive alumni interviews from 2020 Oscar-nominated 1917 screenwriter Krysty Wilson-Cairns and multi-award-winning jazz pianist Fergus McCreadie.
Professor Jeffrey Sharkey, Principal of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, said: “At a time when the campus is closed and students and staff are studying and working remotely, our new prospectus offers an insight into our vibrant global community, which remains as creatively connected as ever.
“We believe the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland is a special place in many ways: a national conservatoire with an international perspective, with students from more than 60 countries and staff trained from the most innovative institutions worldwide.
“At RCS, we encourage our students to develop not just their art but their power to use it – and the world needs that now more than ever. We are looking forward to returning to our home in Glasgow and welcoming new and existing students through our doors and into our RCS family.

Photographer Guy Farrow said he wanted a ‘dramatic, theatrical and cinematic’ feel to the campaign imagery: “I love working with performers and artists, they are always so passionate about what they do and this shows in the shots. There is something so imposing yet elegant when you see people on stage. The style was perfect for my look and I just couldn’t say no.”
The prospectus turns a spotlight on Scotland’s national artistic companies from Scottish Ballet and the National Theatre of Scotland to Scottish Opera and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, which all partner with RCS to provide unique learning and performance opportunities.
Also captured is the grit and the glamour of Glasgow, Scotland’s biggest city, named the UK’s top cultural city in a 2019 European Commission report, as well as the breathtaking beauty of Scotland, named the most beautiful country in the world by Rough Guides 2019.
Established in 1847, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland offers specialist and intensive training in music, drama, dance, production, film and education. It’s also one of Scotland’s busiest arts venues, staging more than 600 public performances each year.
In March, the QS World University Rankings 2020 placed the Royal Conservatoire in the global top ten for performing arts education for the fourth time in five years.
