Fields of Performance: Paradise (Lost)

“In the beginning, God created the Heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep.”

Paradise (Lost) is choreographic physical theatre piece using the world of a fashion show to interrogate consumerism, temptation, femininity and the act of being seen. Audiences are transported back to an alternate genesis, a bizarre, twisted landscape of overindulgence and synthetic decay and are guided through a dark retelling of the story Adam and Eve.

Jess Paris is a sex worker, choreographer, movement director and dance dramaturg working with the body and persona practices to interrogate themes of wealth, indulgence, femininity, gaze and power. Her experience in both live and online sex work underpins her praxis which straddles (pun intended) film and live art to create experiential works that often blur the line between installation and theatre.

Julienne Restall is a Maltese physical performer whose interest lies in devised, ensemble work that generates original content through play. She draws on the techniques of Jacques Lecoq, having recently trained with Complicité on their Mudlarks: Young Devisers Programme with the Barbican, Catherine Alexander, Manifesto Poetico, Temper Theatre and Babel in association with Chris Evans.
