by Louise Van Tassel

I woke up in the dead of night is a late-night bike-ride home, jumping from memory into future into hallucination. It talks about absence, ghosts, fireworks and friendly drunken collisions. It’s fragmented – bitty – like waking up in the middle of the night with a need to pee, running away from ghosts through an empty house. Travelling between bits we are carried by music: Three voices and a double bass.

Developed across distance, with moments of intensive in-person collaboration, the process embraces the loneliness of night; but also the opportunity, in darkness, to communicate through waves of thought- in secret.

We’re a mother, a sister, a sister, and a brother, with a simmering melancholy and a dry sense of humour,
and we’re riding our bikes,
home.

Runtime: 30 minutes
