The RCS Chamber Orchestra return to the Stevenson Hall, under the baton of Donnie Deacon. The concert opens with two works written when both their composers were just 17: Mendelssohn’s Overture from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, with its magical depictions of fluttering fairy wings and scampering feet (and Bottom’s comedic brays); and Mozart’s Symphony No.25, composed in 1773.
The performance concludes with Bizet’s stirring Symphony in C, a piece never published or performed in the composer’s lifetime, but which has claimed its rightful place in the Romantic repertoire.
