Baldur Brönnimann returns to RCS to conduct the first Symphony Orchestra concert of the year. Featuring a new work by young composer Raquel García-Tomás, Ceci n’est pas un Valse, which is receiving its UK premiere.
To celebrate 150 years since Maurice Ravel’s birth, the orchestra performs one the impressionist composers works, a tribute to the waltz, La Valse.
Prokofiev’s Symphony No.5 completes the programme, written after a significant break from writing the symphonic form, a work described by the composer himself as “a hymn to free and happy man, to his mighty powers, his pure and noble spirit”.
