Music: A (*the*) Universal Language?

We are delighted this session of RSE Investigates is co-hosted by the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and explores music as the interconnector of people, spaces and time.

The event will explore the power of music as a medium in itself, as well as its ability to draw people together in a shared emotional experience and enhance our ability to tell one another’s stories. This contemplative journey through music forms will include Gaelic song and Lieder.

The session will be chaired by RSE Vice-President of Public Engagement Professor Martin Hendry, and led by RSE Fellow Professor Jeffrey Sharkey, Principal of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, who is a pianist and composer. They will be joined by Elizabeth McCormack, Lecturer in Vocal Performance at RCS, Dr Lori Watson, Lecturer in Scottish Ethnology at the University of Edinburgh, and student singers Ruairidh Gray and Sophie Bysouth.
