Scottish Traditional Music at its world class best

3 October 2024

Part of The Cumnock Tryst Festival 2024

Traditional Music

Seán Gray is a guitarist, flautist and singer from the village of Coylton in Ayrshire. In recent years he has spent most of his time performing with the award-winning Paul McKenna Band of which The New York Times wrote, “The best folk band to have come out of Scotland in the last twenty years.” Seán was commissioned by Celtic Connections to write ‘The Hammering Tongue’ in 2017. This involved a collaboration with local Lallans Scots poet, Rab Wilson of New Cumnock. We are delighted to host him in a late-night Festival Club event in the Dumfries Arms Hotel.

Dumfries Arms Hotel

Runtime: 60 mins, no interval.

Price: £7 – £17

“Scottish traditional folk music has always been an important focus for us at The Tryst. I used to perform myself with local bands some years ago, round about the west of Scotland. So, it was a delight to find such a prestigious folk performer on our doorstep in Coylton in the shape of Seán Gray, and we are especially excited to give him a Festival Club platform this year in our tenth anniversary celebrations.”
