The Bubblyjock Collective are a chamber-music and artsong ensemble dedicated to promoting and celebrating neglected Scottish classical and contemporary composers. In this special concert for International Women’s Day, they present ‘QUINES’, a programme celebrating female Scottish composers and neglected women from Scottish history.

The heart of this programme is the world-premier of a brand new song-cycle written for the Collective by Lisa Robertson. This new cycle sets texts by acclaimed poet Gerda Stevenson, sung in the voices of 5 incredible women from Scottish history.

The rest of the programme will feature chamber music and artsong by Scottish composers Marie Dare, Isobel Dunlop, Claire Liddell and Helen Hopekirk. All of these women deserve to be known and celebrated for their individual styles and contributions to the music scene.

Find out more about these women at: www.bubblyjockcollective.com/quines

The new commission is generously supported by Vaughan Williams Foundation and Hope Scott Trust

Pre-concert Talk

There will be a pre-concert talk at 5-5:40pm with poet Gerda Stevenson and composer Lisa Robertson about their collaboration on the new commission. Learn more about the context behind QUINES, and the incredible stories of forgotten women from Scotland’s past.

There will also be a chance to look at some of the handwritten scores and ephemera relating to the female composers in the programme, with a small selection of items on display from the Scottish Music Centre’s archive.
