The performances experiment with a wide range of approaches – including channelling, somacoustics, meditation, artificial intelligence – through image, and body-based work. Into the New 2023 inaugurates a change parallel to a major renewal of the Contemporary Performance Practice (CPP) programme at RCS with a new Interim Head, Vânia Gala.
Building on a foundation of experimentation, the CPP department evolves in relation to new developments inside and outside the field of performance and aims to be responsive to new understandings of the world in the twenty-first century. In an epoch of particular anxieties and challenges: the compulsion to perform, coloniality, social justice and our increasingly intimate, complex relation with technology, Into the New will be an occasion for transdisciplinary encounters with artists, thinkers, researchers where we will attempt to manifest some of the ideas, stories and concepts in response to some of these questions.
This will be two days of performance but also of exchanges to re-think performance for the future and its futurity. Into the New will be an encounter for a short series of talks, where we will attempt to manifest some of the ideas on Performance and making and the un-making of worlds. The debate series will consist of a long participatory table and will be concluded with a DJ session at Tramway with DJ Junglehussi.
