It’s the end of the world: the grid is down, loved ones are uncontactable and the survivors are unsure how many miles lie between themselves and nuclear collapse.

So they turn to The Simpsons

In this dark comedy, a frame-by-frame retelling of the “Cape Feare” episode becomes mythologised – over 75 years – into an absurd act of hopefulness and human persistence. There will be singing. There will be dancing. There will be a lot of Simpsons references.

Anne Washburn’s excellent, thought-provoking play challenges us to reconsider which stories shape us, and how we can use them to find courage in the strangest of situations, ultimately asking the vital question: what does it mean to keep going when everything else is destroyed?
