Red Note Ensemble and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland present an evening of new music showcasing the creativity and diversity of composers from across the RCS, alongside work by leading contemporary composers.
The programme features Embryonic, a powerful new work by acclaimed Canadian composer Bekah Simms, commissioned by Nouvel Ensemble Moderne and Red Note Ensemble. In Embryonic, Simms revisits fragments, gestures and sonic memories from her earlier works, transforming them into a compelling new piece for chamber orchestra.
The concert also features David Fennessy’s 13 Factories for ensemble and electronics (2009), commissioned by Ensemble Modern. Inspired by the crowded cities of the Pearl River Delta, Fennessy explores what it means to find and hear an individual voice amongst many. Instrumental sounds meet pure electronic tones, alongside recordings of traditional weaving machines from the Outer Hebrides.
The programme also includes two new works by RCS PhD composition students Gillian Walker and Kate Sagovsky.
Set within the atmospheric surroundings of Glasgow Cathedral, this is an evening of new and experimental music that brings together established and emerging compositional voices.
