The RCS Symphony Orchestra presents its first concert of the academic year, with a dynamic programme conducted by guest conductor Karen Ní Bhroin.
The concert opens with an overture by Grażyna Bacewicz. Bacewicz wrote her Overture in secret in 1943, during the German occupation of Poland. The orchestra will mark ten years since Peter Maxwell Davies’ death with a performance of Orkney Wedding with Sunrise, featuring a solo bagpiper in its evocative depiction of life in Orkney, where the composer, fondly known as Max, lived and died.
MA Conducting student Buğra Yüzügüldü will then lead the orchestra in a performance of John Adams’ Short Ride in a Fast Machine.
After the interval, the orchestra performs Dvořák’s Symphony No.8, a radiant celebration of lyrical invention, warmth, and orchestral richness.
