This programme celebrates the rich traditions of North Indian classical music through the artistry of three distinguished musicians. Arfan will perform Raag Shudh Sarang on the rare Rudra Veena, one of India’s oldest continuously played string instruments, in the meditative Dhrupad style, culminating in a traditional composition accompanied by Sodhi Deere on the equally rare 16th-century Jori. Glasgow-based sarod player Suhas brings a distinctive musical voice shaped by training in several renowned gharanas and advanced study with sitar virtuoso Pandit Sanjoy Bandopadhyay. He has performed extensively across India, the Netherlands and the UK. Completing the ensemble, Sodhi Deere is an acclaimed percussionist and Tabla player, educator and specialist in North Indian rhythm, whose three decades of performance and teaching have inspired audiences and students alike.
