Marie is a self-taught fiddler and composer, with a particular interest in Performance Preparation. With 35 years of teaching and performing experience, Marie also guests in many bands around the country and is a regular on BBC Radio Scotland, television and music festivals near and far. As well as adjudicating, Marie has her own record label and has published 2 books of own compositions.
Marie’s main roles at RCS are Principle Study fiddle/cello as well as Performance Class. Additional projects include an Erasmus to Limerick to research Performance Preparation skills in 2017, followed by funding to develop this further in 2018 and finally a ‘Toolkit’ booklet which is being piloted at present in the Trad Department 2019/20. Other past projects include helping develop the most recent Bmus Principle Study programme. Outwith RCS, Marie will be launching a solo cd and book 3 of compositions towards the end of 2019.
Marie is External Examiner for Leeds College of Music, Examiner for Traditional Music Graded Exams, Mentor for TMSA. Her hobbies include painting, walking and travelling.
