Creative & Contextual Studies Lecturer
Matthew has worked at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland since 1999 and in addition to his Creative & Contextual Studies duties he lectures on the Music Theatre course and teaches in the Junior Music Department.
Initially educated in the north of England, Matthew completed his music degree at Cardiff University and his Master’s degree in composition at the RSAMD studying with John Maxwell Geddes. His music has been widely performed across the UK, Europe, USA, and Australia and he is both composer and Musical Director of the Hairy Maclary & Friends show, which has toured extensively in the UK and Australia including two residencies at Sydney Opera House, and is set to tour in Asia in 2014. His other shows include the acclaimed Here we stay working in partnership with the Citizens Theatre and Scottish Refugee Council, and most recently Little Red Riding Hood which was premiered as part of ‘Edinburgh’s Christmas’ in December 2013.
Matthew is also an animateur for Scottish Opera’s Education programme including recent collaborations with the Citizens Theatre, the Lodging House Mission, Caithness Horizons, and in China with Tianjin University. His work as a piano accompanist has included many years working for ‘Music in Hospitals’ and the National Youth Choir Of Scotland.
