Matthew read music at Cardiff University before moving to Glasgow to complete his Masters in Composition at the RSAMD studying with John Maxwell Geddes. He has since taught part time at the RSAMD/RCS since 1999 whilst pursuing a varied career in music and theatre which has seen his music performed across the world. He also works regularly for Scottish Opera’s Education department and helps run a small theatre company.

Matthew lectures on the BMus course most recently on the Prac Mus and Orchestration modules. He teaches theory and composition to students on the Musical Theatre course and also works regularly as a musical director for various organisations. Matthew also teaches practical musicianship in the Junior department and works from time to time for the Short Courses and Conducting departments.

For Scottish Opera Matthew has worked on a wide variety of projects taking him far and wide from Thurso to Tianjin! He is currently the musical director of ”˜Memory Spinners’, a wonderful programme of projects across Central Scotland which use music, storytelling, movement and the visual arts to help people with dementia and their carers relax, get creative and form new support networks.
