Michelle Melvin studied violin and saxophone at RCS Juniors before undertaking BMus(hons) at Edinburgh Napier University. She went on to study postgraduate performance in saxophone at RCS and was awarded the Mary D Adams Prize, and the Governors’ Recital Prize for Chamber Music. Michelle continued her professional development with lessons and masterclasses in Europe from the Rasher Saxophone Quartet and Dr Fred Hemke.
As a founding member of Sax Ecosse, Michelle has performed throughout the UK and Europe appearing at Edinburgh International Festival, Celtic Connections, St Olaf Festival Norway, and World Saxophone Congresses in Scotland and Slovenia.
Michelle is passionate about music education for all and has worked for many organisations including Live Music Now, Aberdeen City Music School, Enterprise Music Scotland, and Children’s Classic Concerts.
Alongside Sax Ecosse, Michelle is currently an instrumental music teacher with East Renfrewshire Council and is a tutor for their Concert Bands and Jazz Bands.
