Alison is a Flute tutor at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Hailing originally from Melbourne, Alison Mitchell was appointed Principal Flute with theScottish Chamber Orchestra in 2003.

Since leaving Australia to continue her studies in Basle with renowned flautist Peter-Lukas Grafshe has maintained a very successful career between Europe and Australia playing with many majororchestras on both continents.

Alison performs and records regularly with SCO chamber ensembles and as a concerto soloist. Herperformances have included concertos by Mozart, Bach, Poulenc, Osborne, Cimarosa and Honegger.Alison’s recording of Mozart’s Flute Concerto in G major with the SCO was released in 2006 on Linnrecords receiving glowing reviews.

Alison also has a continuing relationship with the Australian Chamber Orchestra as GuestPrincipal and tours with them regularly.She performed with Angela Hewitt andACO in theaward winning recordings of Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto no. 5 and the Triple Concerto for flute,violin and piano.

Alongside her busy SCO schedule Alison performs as a recitalist and chamber musician as wellas lecturing in Flute at the Conservatoire.

Alison also givesspecialist woodwind coaching and has worked closely together with manyyouth orchestras and ensembles from namely, the Australian Youth Orchestra and National MusicCamps, the Australian National Academy, the Sydney Conservatorium and the National Youth Orchestraof Scotland. Alison will also be on the faculty of the Baltic Youth Philharmonic conducted byKristjan Jarvi for their 2009 concert season.
