Moira Summers is Joint Head of the Bachelor of Education (Music) Honours degree, and her main responsibility on the programme is School Experience & Student Placements. This includes co-ordinating classes and lecturing on a range of subjects which prepare students for placements, and representing RCS at national level in Initial Teacher Education matters.
In 2004, after a successful career as a music teacher, culminating in the last 10 years as Principal Teacher of Music in a Secondary school, Moira joined the School of Education at the University of Glasgow. In 2010 she took over her current joint leadership role, working initially from Glasgow University before moving to RCS in 2017.
Outwith RCS, Moira sits on the committee of the Scottish Association for Music Education (SAME) and has been a Visiting Assessor for SQA at National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher levels for over 20 years. She is a multi-instrumentalist who enjoys playing a wide range of genres.
Moira’s research interests include Music Education; Initial Teacher Education; Interdisciplinary Learning/Thinking; and Social Justice.
