Helen Jones is lonely in her marriage and motherhood. Overwhelmed by society and the machinery of life, she commits a crime to escape it, ultimately leading to her downfall.
Based on the 1920s true crime case of convicted murderer Ruth Snyder, sensationalised by the press, Treadwell’s 1928 play explores one woman’s struggle to be heard amongst the noise of contemporary capitalist society.
