Programme Structure

You will be introduced to the three disciplines of Acting, Voice, and Movement.

In Acting, you will explore inner life, observed behaviour, relationships, and text.

In Voice, you will be introduced to Nadine George Voice Work, explore accents, dialects, and your singing voice.

In Movement, you will develop your physical technique through Lecoq-based classes, dance, and acrobatics.

You will also have classes in screen and radio techniques.

You will explore Shakespeare through classes and workshops/classes providing you with the textual and technical skills needed for performance. You will continue to develop your screen and radio technique and explore new approaches to theatre-making and new writing.

The second year provides two public performance opportunities, one of which will take place in a studio theatre context and another off-site. The studio theatre productions range from Shakespeare, one of his contemporaries, a modern adaptation of a classical Greek play to a contemporary verse play. Our Off Kilter Festival, performed off-site, is student-led and provides the opportunity for you to perform Solo or group devised pieces.

You will also take part in professional practice classes to develop the essential skills required for the acting industry.

In addition to your Industry Showcase – performed to an audience of agents, casting directors and other industry professionals – you will perform in two public productions of contemporary plays. You will work intensively on screen scenes which can be used on your Spotlight profile.

Through the course of your final year, you will develop your employability and entrepreneurial skills, equipping you to manage your career as a professional actor.

Applications are made through the UCAS Conservatoires website. The UCAS Conservatoires application system is separate from the main UCAS undergraduate application system. You can read our guidance about using UCAS Conservatoires on our dedicated How to Apply page.

All applicants applying for the BA Acting programme also need to create an Acceptd acount and submit an Acceptd application, where you will upload a headshot. As part of this process, you will need to complete a questionnaire — a required part of the Acceptd submission.

We do not offer deferred entry. If you wish to commence in 2027, you must apply next year.

The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland institution code is R58. You will also require the following programme code to apply: W410 — Drama Performance.

The closing date for all applications is 14 January 2026.  We are unable to consider later applications for BA Acting.

Application & Audition Fees

There is a UCAS Conservatoires application fee of £28.95. In addition to the application fee, each conservatoire charges an audition/interview assessment administration fee. The interview assessment administration fee is £55 for this programme. Fees are not refundable. The fees are paid via the UCAS Conservatoires website and not directly to RCS.

We recognise that auditioning and interviewing for conservatoires, drama and ballet schools can be costly. The audition assessment administration fee charge allows us to offer a thorough and positive experience to all applicants and we encourage you to get in touch to ask the panel questions and find out more about the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland to see if it is the best place for you.

We are committed to ensuring fair access to a conservatoire education for students who have the talent and potential to benefit from it, regardless of their background. In support of this, audition fee waivers are offered to applicants whose financial hardship may be a barrier to auditioning. Please note you can only apply for a fee waiver request once you have completed and submitted your UCAS application. Please see the audition fee waiver form for more information.
